Angelina Jolie is one of the prominent figures in the entertainment industry. Born on June 4, 1975 in Los Angeles, California, the actor cum director has won a plethora of accolades. In addition to her portrayal as a sex symbol, she also has an Academy Award to her name among other cherished awards. Her exploits in the entertainment industry have propelled her to Forbes list as the highest paid female personality in Hollywood, as from 2009 to 2011.
Angelina Jolie began her illustrious screen career in 1982 as a young talented child. She featured beside her father Jon Voight, also an award-winning actor in the film titled “Looking to Get Out”. However, her breakthrough came in 1993 in “Cyborg 2”, after which she featured as a lead actor in “Hackers”. Her performance in “Girl Interrupted” earned her the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Her stardom continued to shine brighter and her role in the blockbuster “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider”, earned her worldwide recognition. She is also widely known for her role in the comedy “Mr and Mrs Smith” which featured Brad Pitt.
Angelina Jolie’s life has not been free from controversy. Her parents separated when she was just one year old. She and her brother went to live with their mother who had to abandon her acting ambitions to care of them. Jolie at first desired to act, but would drop out of acting school. She aspired to be a funeral director and took up modelling. Her schoolmates would pick on her, and this left her feeling isolated. She confesses to have harboured suicidal feelings and experimented on drugs. The actor has had a tumultuous relationship with her father over the years.
She currently has three adopted children, and three of her own. All her adopted children are from orphanages. As an UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador, she plays a humanitarian role to make the world a better place by bringing awareness. She has extensively traveled around the globe for humanitarian purposes. The actress has continued to produce other masterpiece performances, to raise her career to the zenith of Hollywood success stories.
